On a sunny late September morning 11 riders opted to join Russell's undulating ride to Brenchley via Pembury. A welcome to our new rider Allan Brown, making his first ride with the club and what was to be his first 30 mile plus ride. Meeting at Marden was unusual for us and it was good to meet up with the other groups who regularly start there. Out towards Marden Thorn and Stapelhurst then the climb to Curtisden Green. After Ladham House joining Cycle Route 18 to skirt passed Goudhurst. Plenty of undulations to challenge us as we passed Marle Place after crossing the B2162. On through Old Cryals then crossing the B2160 to Romford and some good short climbs. Through Pembury to cross the by-pass using the old footbridge at the end of Old Church Road. Passed Amshurst Hill Farm to cross the busy Colt's Hill A228 for the longest challenge of the day, Crittenden Road. A flat ride through Matfield and on to our well deserved refreshment stop at Gray's Cafe, Brenchley. Then to the top of Castle Hill with some stopping to admire the view. At Castle Hill turning left for the fast descent to Pearson's Green, along Churn Lane then Sheephurst Lane and back to Marden. 30 miles at 12.00 mph average. Four riders, including Allan, then choosing to do a loop through Yalding to add another 12 miles on such a great day.
