D+ ride 5/8/16

A beautiful sunny day meant a monster turn out of riders. Seventeen left Yalding station and made our way to the village and an early climb up Kenward, not that we needed much warming up. There was an early mechanical issue shortly followed by a puncture for Chris Moon which Gary soon sorted out. We cut across the A229 at the bottom of Linton Hill and followed the lanes down to Hawkenbury, through Frittenden and on to the cafe stop at Knoxbridge. They were quite overwhelmed when we all walked in and the owner soon locked the door behind us. The food was worth the wait and while most of us tucked into the usual savoury fayre Kevyn had her first experience of Spotted Dick and Custard. The flattish and shorter route back took us past the Hush Heath vineyard, the outskirts of Marden, through Laddingford and into Yalding. We came back at a fair lick given the terrain and the splendid weather. It was one of those mornings when it was a joy to be on the bike. A distance of 34 miles was covered at an average of 13.3 mph.
